Have you made the switch to contacts? If you’ve grown tired of trying to accommodate your life around a pair of glasses, then contact lenses are a great option to consider. Contacts give you the freedom to move around and stay active, all while being able to see clearly. And there’s no worry about busting a lens, losing a nose pad or falling off your face.
With this freedom comes great responsibility. When you wear lenses, contact care is an ongoing commitment. But don’t worry, keeping them clean is easy!
A few things to remember:
- Wash your hands! Before you put in or take out your contacts, wash your hands with soap and water, then dry them with a clean towel.
- Take your contacts out at night. As the solution works its magic cleaning and disinfecting your lenses, this rest period is when your eyes receive the oxygen they need to breathe. Even if your contacts are overnight-approved, it’s a good idea to take them out before you hit the hay anyway.
- Rinse them out before you put them back in your eyes. A squirt of the solution and a quick message with your index finger and thumb should be all you need.
- They’re called disposable for a reason. Even with regular maintenance and cleaning, protein build-up and other dirt will accumulate, so toss those bad boys when you’ve reached the designated time frame for use.
- Don’t reuse your solution. Eww. Just don’t. Ever!
- This goes for saliva, tap water, saline solution or any other form of liquid. Contact lens solution is the only way to clean and disinfect your contacts safely and appropriately.
When you make the switch to contact lenses, you may need some time to get used to the change. If you can keep up with their proper care and maintenance, the transition will be easy!
